So much heat … so little air conditioning
Hey guys,
Bae and I are one week away from embarking on our next adventure in Cabo Verde, but like most other folks here in Europe, are trying to figure out how to stay cool in a country that would rather die a death of a thousand suns than install air conditioning units in homes.
To be clear, electricity is expensive and conditioning units use a lot of energy. So I guess I get why folks don’t want to spend a ton of money on a/c, but there are only so many 100 degree days mama can take.
So what do we do when it gets too hot in Berlin? FKK? Perhaps. But this week, we decided to rent a small flotilla and spend the day swimming in the Havel River. One of the many things I love about Berlin is how inexpensive really cool experiences can be. In DC, a boat rental is about 450 dollars an hour. In Berlin, we rented the boat for 250 euros for the entire day.
And what a beautiful day it was. The weather was simply perfect, there weren’t too many people out on the water except for the uberwealthy pensioners, and after about two hours of driving up the river Havel, we found a nice quiet place to anchor near peacock island where we swam and barbecued!
Time really does fly when you’re having fun because 9 hours later, we were slowly making our way back to the port. But we didn’t want the night to end so we decided to go skinny dipping in another lake. But as luck would have it, the night was a bit too chilly and we decided to forgo our night swimming dreams for another time.
This is what summering in Berlin feels like, and I’ve been told to REALLY enjoy myself while I can, lol! Today is actually the last day of the summer heat so we plan on going out to the lake one more time to swim and hopefully see the last few shooting stars of the season.
And as I’m writing this, my husband is all of a sudden excited about Christmas because it’s “right around the corner.”
*** big sigh ***
Okay y’all, the next time you hear from me, it will be from the beautiful island nation of Cabo Verde!
peace and blessings to you all,
the trendy one …
