One more thing for all my non-black folk: you should be just as mad and angry and scar(r)ed and hurt as your black friends. You may not know what it’s like to be targeted for being black, but I would certainly expect you to have feelings if someone you knew ... like me ... fell victim to such a crime. Does that not invoke a visceral response in you? If you saw my lifeless, bullet-riddled body on your newsfeed, would you not weep with agony?
Your silence will kill us. Pick up your megaphone and shout at the top of your lungs against the injustices facing this country. We are in a crisis.
Just because you’re not black doesn’t mean you can’t empathize ... right?
I certainly have empathy for the children who are still locked up at the border. Who are dying at the border. For the parents who will never see their children again. I’m not Mexican or Latin American but I will scream from the rooftops that their lives matter.
And while we are on the subject ... drop the all lives matter bullshit.
We say black lives matter as a reminder that they should matter. Because it is obvious that they do not.
To quote Billie Eilish:
“... if I hear one more white person say, ‘All lives matter,’ I’m going to lose my f------ mind. No one is saying your life doesn't matter. No one is saying your life is not hard. No one is saying literally anything about you. This is not about you. Stop making everything about you. You are not in need. You are not in danger."
