Getting Healthy and Working Out in the (Post?) Pandemic

Getting Healthy and Working Out in the (Post?) Pandemic

Quitting my job as a diplomat in the foreign service and downloading the smoothie king app were just the first few steps I took to making holistic, long-lasting and healthy changes in my life.

But let’s be honest, mama’s gained a “little” weight thanks to the Rona keeping us confined indoors and needing to self-medicate with doordash and a startling refreshing 2-ingredient cocktail, Hennessy Peach and lemonade (thank you best friend)!

Two years and a full 40 pounds later, I decided it was time to make drastic changes. So I put my money (instead of food) where my mouth is and I hired a personal trainer for the next few months.

Now, I’ve been down this road before so often that one of my frat brothers teases me about always “misplacing" weight. Shade, but yes.

This time, I’m trying to make lifestyle changes. I am actually lifting weights as opposed to doing a ton of cardio. I am buying groceries at whole foods and trying to eat out sparingly. Probably the biggest change I’ve made is the reduction in my alcohol consumption. Because Cape Verde was an incredibly stressful experience, I drank 2-3 gin and tonics for lunch on a daily basis. Now, I might have 2-3 glasses of something bubbly every week, not because I’m stressed, but because I’m fancy.

I digress

I’m writing this post to hold myself accountable to the promise I’m making to myself, to my husband and our future children - I promise to lead a healthy and active lifestyle so that I can be around for years to come.

This picture of me isn’t great - but it’s honest. I am the textbook definition of struggle bus on my weight loss journey at the moment, but with your encouragement and the occasional shady comment, I’ll be on my way to Beach Body 2023.

Forever yours,

The Trendy Diplomat
