Honest Review of Singapore Airlines’ Business Class - The Trendy Diplomat
For my latest trip to Europe, I found a relatively inexpensive business class fare with Singapore airlines. This was my first time traveling with this airline and so I was a bit nervous, but both the product and the customer service were well worth the money.
As a relatively wide person, I make it a point to avoid flying economy class at all costs. Beyond having the obviously bigger seat, in the era of COVID-19, there are simply many more opportunities to social distance.
That said, flying out of the DMV to pretty much anywhere can be prohibitively expensive, even in coach. So I expanded my search to look for flights out of New York City and stumbled upon this Singapore Airlines flight.
To my delight, the flight was not terribly expensive (about half the cost of Lufthansa’s comparable product), so I decided to make the trek to New York. Would I do this again? Although the Singapore Airlines Business Class Product is definitely “worth it,” I would only do it if I were already in New York City.
The flight in both directions was magnificent. Coming back from Frankfurt, I breezed through check-in and airport security and made a bee-line for Air Canada’s Maple Leaf Lounge. The spacious partner lounge featured a hot buffet served by an attendant, self-serve drinks and alcohol in addition to a smattering of filling snacks. It is an oval-shaped lounge with an inner oval lounging area that makes the space look incredibly modern. This lounge also has one of the nicest (and cleanest) restrooms and private sitting/sleeping area. I would highly recommend visiting this lounge if you are ever at Frankfurt Airport
I ate my fill then made my way to the plane and fell in love. The seats were set up in a 1-2-1 configuration, and I had a seat right above the wings and away from most people, so it almost felt like a private flight. That was amazing, but what I enjoyed most about this flight was the incredible customer service. The flight attendants were funny, kind, and really enjoyed that I wanted to try as much of the food as possible. They even helped me take a few photos.
Dinner came out in courses. The first thing they served was a chicken satay. The flight attendant asked me if I had ever tried it (the answer was no), so then she giggled and told me that this would literally be the best satay I would ever have. I have to admit, I was not ready for the explosion of flavors in my mouth - and the rest of the menu did not disappoint!
After eating this much food, it was time to get some sleep. I went to the spacious restroom to powder my nose, and returned to a seat that had been turned into a twin-sized bed. This plane has turn-down service! The staff even gave me a teddy bear to keep me company.
Now, if I was to be disappointed in anything, it is the fact they have discontinued passing out an amenity kit. In lieu of the kit, the bathroom has a full set of amenities including toothbrushes, slippers, lotions and facial mists. Not one to be deterred, I asked the flight attendant if they still had any left, and they managed to find a few for me as an added bonus to what was already a very lovely flight!
The Verdict:
Based on the customer service experience alone, I would highly recommend this business class product to anyone traveling to Europe (or Singapore). The services and amenities are comparable to most airlines known for their business class products making Singapore Airlines’ business class a veritable steal.
The caveat is that I would not travel all the way from Washington D.C. to New York to take this flight. Although I did not detail it here, the additional train and car-share expenses proved to be so high that I could have taken another business class flight right out of D.C. and saved myself the time, expense, and the traffic.
Nevertheless, I am thrilled that I got the chance to experience this product, and would highly recommend it to anyone flying out of New York to Europe and beyond.
