A Salute to Queer Black Icon Don Lemon
This salute goes to Don Lemon who once upon a time was so far from being woke that ms. thing seemed comatose. But after covering Ferguson, Lemon saw the light and has since then been consistently calling out injustices against black bodies on the international stage. He is therefore officially welcomed back to the cookout and we might even let him make the potato salad … Maybe!
Without further adieu, I give you one Don Lemon (Taken from US Embassy Ghana’s profile on black LGBTQI+ personalities):
Don Lemon is an American broadcast journalist. As anchor of CNN Tonight, Lemon has used his platform in recent weeks to denounce systemic racism and police brutality in the wake of George Floyd’s death at the hands of police officers. Lemon joined CNN in 2006 as a correspondent. He later achieved prominence as the presenter of CNN Tonight beginning in 2014. In 2002, Lemon won an Edward R. Murrow Award for his coverage of the capture of the D.C. area sniper, and other awards for reports on Hurricane Katrina. In 2006, he earned three Chicago / Midwest Emmy Awards–one for a business feature and two for reporting on the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Africa. Lemon was voted as one of the 150 most influential African Americans by Ebony magazine in 2009. In 2014, Advocate listed Lemon as one of the publication's 50 Most Influential LGBTQ People in Media.
